Workspace: empty. It is kept in memory only and cleared when you reload the page.

Clear workspace?

This removes the saved original text and last output that carry over between tools. Text currently typed into an editor stays where it is.

How to use the Text Cleaner

  1. Paste your text into the input field.
  2. Turn on the cleaning options you want. They are applied in a fixed order.
  3. Copy the cleaned text or download it as a TXT file.

Examples

Each option on its own

Option and inputResult
Collapse repeated spaces: “a b”“a b”
Trim each line: “ a ⏎ b ”“a⏎b”
Remove empty lines: “a⏎⏎ ⏎b”“a⏎b”
Join broken lines: “one⏎two⏎⏎three”“one two⏎⏎three”
Straighten quotes and dashes: “Don’t” – now"Don't" - now
Replace special spaces: non-breaking space between wordsan ordinary space
Normalize line endings: Windows and old Mac breaksUnix line breaks

Limitations

  • With every option off, the output is identical to the input.
  • Options run in this fixed order: normalize line endings, remove invisible characters, replace special spaces, straighten quotes and dashes, trim each line, collapse repeated spaces, join broken lines, remove empty lines, trim the entire text.
  • Collapse repeated spaces only affects runs of ordinary spaces. Turn on Replace special spaces to include non-breaking spaces; tabs and line breaks are always left alone.
  • Remove invisible characters deletes zero-width spaces, word joiners, byte order marks and soft hyphens. Joiners used inside emoji and some scripts are kept.
  • Join broken lines turns a single line break into a space and keeps blank lines as paragraph breaks. Combine it with Remove empty lines to get one line per paragraph.
  • When lines are removed, the remaining lines are joined with the first line break in your text, or a Unix line break if you normalized or there was none.
  • Remove empty lines also removes lines that contain only whitespace.

Frequently asked questions

Why is nothing changed at first?

All options start off, so the tool never changes your text unless you ask it to.

What does normalize line endings do?

It converts Windows (CRLF) and old Mac (CR) line breaks to Unix (LF) line breaks.

Does the order of options matter?

The order is fixed, so the same options always give the same result regardless of the order you tick them.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. Cleaning happens in your browser and the text is not sent to TextMora.
